The line item people underestimate: waterproofing
Waterproofing isn't a visible finish — which is exactly why it's the corner some contractors cut and homeowners never notice until it fails. A full waterproof membrane behind wet-area tile, correct pan slope in a curbless shower, and properly flashed niches all add labor time that doesn't show up in a "before and after" photo but absolutely shows up in whether the bathroom is still dry behind the wall in eight years.
